As the number of salmonella cases blamed on tomatoes continues to rise, the government is looking into whether they are even to blame. The widening outbreak – with 810 people confirmed ill – means whatever is making people sick could very well still be on the market. What really has officials worried is that the latest victim became sick on June 15th, long after the outbreak began on April 10th and weeks after government warnings stripped supermarkets and restaurants of many tomatoes.
According to CNN, if tomatoes aren’t to blame, it could cost the industry $100 million

A 375-pound bear was rescued from drowning in the Gulf of Mexico. The large bear had wandered into a neighborhood of the Florida panhandle community of Apalachicola over the weekend when it was hit by a tranquilizer dart shot by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission biologists. But it managed to escape and bolt into the ocean before the sedation went into effect. That was when biologist Adam Warwick jumped into the water to save the bear from drowning. He managed to get the beast to shore, where a backhoe loaded it on a truck. The bear was then relocated to Osceola National Forest.

An Iowa man who tried to pay a $100 bond in dirty money will spend a week in jail for contempt of court. The man was arrested in May for driving a truck with a defective tire. Instead of paying a fine, he opted for a trial and a Scott County judge required him to post bond. On Thursday, he brought a box of crumbled money and a bucket of pennies to the court office. A court clerk said there were bugs in the box and the pennies were covered in an unknown substance; they used rubber gloves to count the cash. Judge Christine Dalton found the man in contempt of court and told the bailiff to arrest him.

Virginia hairdresser Kelly Gray offered eBay bidders a chance to buy a spot in her wedding party as a bridesmaid. The company plans to launch a Web site to find her a bridesmaid or provide a surprise guest. Gray and fiancé Karl Gau came up with the auction idea because they were worried about paying for the wedding.

Flint, Michigan's new police chief is saying no to crack. Acting Flint Police Chief David R. Dicks announced that officers will begin arresting people wearing pants or shorts that sag too low, exposing rear ends. The crackdown on buttocks is an apparent response to "significant" complaints from citizens, according to Dicks. Under the chief's orders, any sworn officer who sees "sagging/exposing buttocks" will have probable cause to make an arrest under the city's disorderly person ordinance -- a misdemeanor punishable by a 500-dollar fine and three months in jail.

The victim in last week's incident at a Tim McGraw concert in Washington state is speaking out. Last week, Tim intervened as a woman had her hair pulled and was knocked to the floor by a charging fan. Jo Anne Hume, tells K-I-N-G T-V in Seattle that the man at the center of the ruckus, Marcus Nirschl, landed on top of her. She says, "One second I'm standing there enjoying the concert and the next second I have chair and a 300-pound person on top of me and I am on the floor." Nirschl claims that the whole thing was an accident and that he never intentionally grabbed Hume. He also says that he's contemplating a lawsuit. Hume says that there were no security guards in the front row to help her. She also says that she'll support Tim if a lawsuit is filed against him.

He says the new take on the old low-budget T-V show doesn't involve many computer graphics to create a dinosaur-inhabited world. He says, "We really use the adventure to setup the comedy, and were able to comment on these situations that you would love to see characters comment on. It's a lot of new stuff for me, but like anything else, you learn to adapt. Luckily we built these amazing, beautiful sets, so we didn't have to imagine every single thing that you would on a movie that has [computer graphics] on everything."

Top 10 Outrageous Car Options
While Bluetooth devices have become a useful and highly coveted automotive accessory, not all automotive innovations have basked in the same success. Hagerty Insurance researched dozens of eccentric inventions to come up with the top 10 quirkiest and most outrageous options ever invented for automobiles.
1. Automatic Lit Cigarette Dispenser: As a “safety” item, this was an aftermarket accessory designed to eliminate the distractions of lighting a cigarette while motoring down the road. The option was unveiled in the late 1940s.
2. Highway Hi-Fi (16 2/3 LP Player): This option was developed in 1955 and was offered as an option on 1956 Chrysler models. The drawback was in the performance of the record player while encountering the smallest of bumps, slamming on the brakes or taking a fast corner.
3. Destroilet: An optional “Destroilet” gas incinerator-type toilet was available for early 1960s Dodge motor homes. After use, when the top lid was closed, a small, thick metal lid would also close over the well at the bottom. A jet of burning gas would incinerate the solid waste and vaporize the liquid. A chimney to the outdoors carried the vapors away.
4. Electric Shaver: An electric shaver that was powered by a vehicle’s electrical system was developed in the 1940s and was an option for a 1957 Chevrolet.
5. Automotive Swamp Cooler: These were popular from the late 1940s through the 1950s to help cool the interior of cars before air conditioning systems became readily available. Swamp Coolers were available through the aftermarket and attached to one of the car’s windows. The theory was simply to cool by evaporation. There was a reservoir for cool water, a wick to soak it up, and it relied on air movement from traveling down the road to force cooled air into the interior of the vehicle.
6. Steam Pressure Cooker: This accessory mounted to the rear bumper to cook food while motoring down the road.
7. Steering Wheel Watch: In 1958 a steering-wheel-mounted watch was available on DeSotos.
8. Trafficators: Back in the days before flashing turn signals, a driver would flip a switch on the dash and a lit semaphore arm would swing out of a panel on the appropriate side of the car and signal the driver’s intention to turn.
9. Swivel Seats: These seats, available on a 1959 Chrysler, would automatically swivel out as the door opened to make it easier for the passenger to exit the automobile.
10. Talking Car: In the early 1980s, the Chrysler LeBaron literally talked, saying phrases like “Your door is ajar,” “All monitored systems functioning,” and “Please fasten your seatbelt.” The cars with the taped voice were produced for only three years before Chrysler discovered that consumers didn’t like a car talking back to them.

Domino’s Pizza named Silver Springs, Maryland, resident Dennis Tran the World’s Fastest Pizza Maker yesterday. Tran made three large pizzas in 46.4 seconds. A Jacksonville, Florida, bike store employee used his cell phone as a gun to stop a burglary suspect, and then sat on the man until help arrived. The Purcell’s Motorcycle and Marine World employee said he spotted Hector Ivan Arroyo-Medina attempting to drag a dirt bike through a hole that had been cut in the fence of the business early yesterday morning. The worker pointed his cell phone at the suspect and yelled, “Freeze, or I’ll shoot you.” He then ordered the suspect to lie on the ground in the middle of the road and sat on him until they were spotted by a Fire-Rescue vehicle. According to the police report, the firefighters took turns sitting on the suspect until police arrived.

Two Alton, Texas jail inmates whose attempted getaway through an air conditioning duct landed them to crash into the police chief's office were charged with escaping custody. One of the men hoisted his cellmate up to the ceiling, where he managed to open a vent and crawl inside just before 3 a-m Saturday. But the man didn't make it far, Alton Police Chief Baldemar Flores said. His weight caused the duct to collapse, dumping him eight feet into the chief's office. Police found the other man trying to reach the cell's vent moments later. The men -- Jesus Albert Suarez Chavez and Roman Orozco Martinez -- had been arrested earlier in the evening for burglarizing vehicles. City Manager Jorge Arcaute said he would consider several options such as tightening ceiling panels and separating inmates to make sure they stay locked up in the future.

Police in Muncie, Indiana, say a 7-year-old boy drove his grandmother’s car more than a mile to a shopping mall before another motorist blocked the car and took the keys. Police received several calls around 9 a.m. yesterday about a small child driving toward Muncie Mall. The boy was so small that some motorists couldn’t see anyone behind the wheel. Matthew Sands followed the Geo Tracker into the mall parking lot and pinned the boy in as he drove into some bushes and a tree. Sands said the boy backed the car into his vehicle before he was able to get the keys away from him. Child welfare workers were called to investigate. Police think the boy might have learned how to drive from a PlayStation game.

A 70-year-old Florida woman fought back against a would-be-robber and chased him through a parking lot. Joann Starcher was in a West Branenton Save-A-Lot parking lot Sunday night when a young man jumped up between cars and demanded money. Starcher told him to "go to hell in a hand basket" and he ran off but she gave chase until he hid behind a provacy fence.

Hunky Justin Gaston had the most improved performance of the competition last night, but the accolades from the judges came too late -- America had already decided to send him home. Justin was joined in the bottom two by Tommy Stanley, who was told early in the competition he was in danger of going home and would not sing until the end of the show. Though the judges said that Justin out-sang Tommy last night, fan votes based on last week's performance were enough to get Tommy through to the next round. The theme of the night was "Pop Goes Country," and while most contestants were able to put a twangy twist on some very un-country hits, those who shined were Ashlee Hewitt with her version of Britney Spears "(He Drives Me) Crazy," Gabe Garcia's take on Ricky Martin's "Living La Vida Loca" and Melissa Lawson's turn on Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors." Host Billy Ray Cyrus told the remaining contestants that next week the judges would give them the surprise of their lives.

This year's summer plans have become "staycations" for many Americans. “Strictly No Photography” is a mischievous photo-sharing Web site for photographs that have been taken exactly “where you are not allowed to take them.” Browse through the collection of forbidden photos and you’ll find scores of images captured in places that you “are not supposed to see.” Divided into sections like “Art Galleries,” “Government,” “Museums,” “Royalty,” “Political” and “Weird and Wonderful,” the site has images that were taken out of harmless fun as well as more serious footage from heavily censored areas such as hospitals and war zones.

A judge said a Times Square entertainer who wears just enough to justify the name the "Naked Cowboy" can continue a lawsuit he brought against a blue M-and-M. Federal Judge Denny Chin on Monday stripped Robert Burck of some of his claims that a blue M-and-M wearing a white cowboy hat, cowboy boots and underpants violates his trademarks. But the judge left intact one strand of that lawsuit. Chin said Burck might be able to prove that Mars Inc., which makes M-and-Ms, unfairly gave the impression that he had endorsed its advertising campaign. For its part, Mars says the ad campaign was a parody and is protected by the First Amendment.

Monday again and another great day! 6/23/2008

Welcome to another week and here is what Matt and I talked about this morning:

BIG Twins
Doctors at Forsyth Medical Center in North Carolina believe a mother who gave birth last Tuesday to twins weighing a combined 23 pounds, 1 ounce, is a state record for the heaviest combined birth weight – and may be the second heaviest twins born in America in the past 100 years. Sean William Maynard was born weighing 10 pounds, 14 ounces, and his sister, Abigail Rose Maynard, weighed 12 pounds, 3 ounces. The parents say big babies run in the family. The twins were delivered via Cesarean section at 38 weeks.

World’s Ugliest Dog Crowned
A dog that’s missing a leg, eye and its fur was awarded $1,600 for winning the title of World’s Ugliest Dog at a fair in California. Gus, a Chinese-Crested, won the title at a contest Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. Gus was up against 11 other dogs from throughout the United States. The homely pup was given two trophies along with his award money, which his masters plan to use for radiation treatments. Gus is fighting skin cancer, which caused him to lose a leg. He lost his eye during a scuffle with a tomcat.

Toilet Paper Wedding Dress
An Illinois woman has been crowned this year’s winning wedding dress designer at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in New York City. Her creation was a slinky white sheath dress made entirely of toilet paper. Six toilet paper dresses were displayed at the Times Square “odditorium” and three winning designers squared off for the top prize of $1,000. The judges were from Ripley’s, Charmin and Cheap-Chic-Weddings.com. The winner spent two weeks creating her dress with a raised flower pattern from molded toilet paper. The annual dress competition just celebrated its fourth year.

Dannielynn Inherits Anna Nicole’s Lingerie
Larry Birkhead wants to make sure Anna Nicole Smith’s memory lives on for their daughter, Dannielynn. On Saturday, Birkhead laid down almost $3,000 for lingerie worn by Anna for a Playboy centerfold photo shoot so his daughter can learn about her late mother’s life story.

Man Drops 80 Pounds At McDonald’s
Chris Coleson of Virginia lost 80 pounds in six months by eating nearly every meal at McDonald’s. Not Big Macs and french fries, but salads, wraps and apple dippers without the caramel sauce. Coleson tipped the scales at 278 pounds in December. At 5-foot-9-inches, he now weighs 199 pounds and his waist size has dropped from 50 to 36. Coleson, 42, says he chose McDonald’s because it’s convenient. His inspiration came from his two children and from the story of a blind war veteran who rode a tandem bicycle cross-country. Coleson’s goal is 185 pounds – what he weighed when he married his wife Tricia 10 years ago.

NASA Finds Evidence Of Ice On Mars
Scientists working on NASA’s Phoenix Mars Lander mission say they’ve unearthed compelling evidence that ice is on Mars. The small probe landed last month on a frozen desert at the Martian north pole to search for water in an attempt to see if life could have existed on Mars. Small chunks of bright material described as the size of dice have disappeared from inside a trench where they were photographed. That led scientists to theorize that the chunks were ice that vaporized after digging exposed it.

Other things we talked about this morning:
A kangaroo may be on the loose on the campus of Pensacola Junior College in Florida. A school official says that a custodian saw what she thought was a kangaroo hopping around last Wednesday. They’ve checked with the Zoo and the circus but no one is missing a kangaroo…The entire situation is perplexing everyone.

A woman is alive today because of her bra! 24 year old Jessica Brown was hiking in the Austrian Alps when she fell off a ledge. She was stranded for nearly three days in cold weather while rescue workers were about to give up looking for her. She saw a Cable car and took off her bra and tossed it into the cable car which alerted searchers. One rescue worker said “It certainly beats sending up a flare.”

In the troubling housing market a Florida housing development is pushing a clothing optional swimming pool! The condo has two pools and are setting one aside for Nude swimmers, sunbathers and hot tubers. Additional landscaping and cabanas will be installed to shield the naked swimmers. No one under 18 will be allowed in the clothing-optional pool area.

Then he asked the crowd of 50-thousand to join him in singing "Happy Birthday" to Nicole and brought her onstage. After the song, Nicole blew the audience a kiss and returned backstage. Country music newcomer Darius Rucker caught some grief from one fan on a social networking site for abandoning his trademark baseball hat and T-shirts. In his MySpace blog, he says that the fan accuses him of hiring a stylist and tells him, "For cryin' out loud, be yourself." Darius, who does not have a stylist, replies, "As for going back to the cap, dirty jeans, nasty T-shirt look that I had, I am a married father of three and I am 42 years old, so I don't think that I would be very comfortable with myself if I still dressed like a drunk college boy.

Britney Spears returned to L-A on Friday evening -- after going home to Louisiana for the birth of her first niece -- and promptly got into a fight with a group of photographers at the airport. During a scuffle involving about three-dozen paparazzi, one photographer reportedly had his camera shoved into his face by one of Brit's bodyguards. Happy Friday...6/20/2008

Another week has come to an end but boy did we have fun getting here!
Today on Carolina Country Cruzin' Matt and Dee talked about lots of things and just in case you didn't catch the show...
Matt started the morning off with sharing his story of hitting his own mailbox yesterday! He miss judged the distance and knocked it down and said he wasn't going to tell his wife about it! A call came in wanting money to keep quiet about it! We had a story about a lady finding a snake in her mailbox. A Londonderry, New Hampshire, woman got more than she bargained for when she opened her mailbox this week – a 3-foot-long snake. Police captured the snake Tuesday and took it a pet store, where employees identified it as a non-poisonous corn snake. The pet store figures it may have been a pet that was abandoned and may have made its way into the mailbox on its own. I finished it off with admitting when I was 16 my car was struck by lighting and I ran over one too! (I refrain from going into all the details)

Updated everyone that I do now have my SC Drivers License now!

I also did a little name dropping of the fine folks at CITI in Florence for listening! Mary, Michelle, Vicki and Julius Thanks again!

She did not know the children were gone until she was awakened by police at her door. She thinks the kids were headed to visit their father at work.

Want to be a part of letting the government know about your cost for gas you can go to the websites Matt talked about this morning at
http://www.consumerwatchdog.org/ and http://www.oilwatchdog.org/?topicId=8059&/The+Industry

A group that advocates separation of church and state filed a federal lawsuit yesterday to prevent South Carolina from becoming the first state to created “I Believe” license plates. The group says the government is endorsing Christianity by allowing the plates, which would include a cross superimposed on a stained glass window. The lawsuit was filed by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, based out of Washington. A bill allowing the plates flew through the Legislature with little discussion earlier this year. The Governor let it become law without his signature because the state already allows private groups to create license plates for any cause.

U.S. motorists are risking drug violence in Mexico to drive over the border and fill their tanks with cheap Mexican fuel. The gap between Mexico’s subsidized gas and record U.S. prices has made it well worth dodging a bullet or two to cross the border for gas. Some say they can save up to $100 a month by filling up every two weeks in Mexico. The extra demand is causing shortages at Mexico’s border gas stations, some of which are starting to ration fuel. Mexico’s gas prices are around $1.40 cheaper per gallon. A gallon of diesel in southern Arizona cost $4.64 this week, compared to around$2.25 just across the border. And I suggested the slogan for South Carolina be “Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places and cheap Gas” South Carolina is #1 in the US for cheap gas!
A 19-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself Tuesday morning while he was attempting to rob a Grand Prairie, Texas home, authorities said. Cameron Sands, 19, of Fort Worth kicked in the door of the house and then shot himself in the stomach as he pulled a gun out of his pants to shoot the homeowner, Grand Prairie police said. The homeowner was not injured. After Sands shot himself, he dropped the gun and ran out of the home. Police found his body around 5:30 a-m. in the driveway of the home. Lieutenant John Brimmer says, "This is the first that I've heard of a robbery suspect killing himself as he is drawing a gun out of his waist band. The criminal evidence points to that. It certainly isn't common."

A Ferryville, Wisconsin, woman shot herself in the foot with a .22-caliber rifle while hunting for awoodchuck in her vegetable garden. Officials said 45-year-old Penny Gilman shot herself in the left foot with a bolt-action rifle while waiting for the woodchuck to show its face. Gilman was treated for her injury at a hospital and released. An initial investigation uncovered a problem with the rifle, which deputies confiscated.
