Another Tuesday has come and gone and I'd like to thank you for spending it with us! Keep it rolling and join Carolina Country Cruizin' with Matt and Dee tomorrow for another morning full of fun and winning!
A Stevensville, Montana, mother brought a dead bat with rabies to school and let kindergarten and fifth-grade students in her children’s classes pet the dead animal. Now health officials say that any student that may have touched the bat’s mouth needs to start the month-long process of getting rabies vaccines. Superintendent Kent Kultgen said the school districts insurance will cover the cost, which could add up to $800 per student.
We might be able to find out who'll be the next U.S. president five days before election day, simply by answering the door. Spirit Halloween notes that sales of presidential masks have accurately reflected the winners in the last three presidential races, with the candidate who generates higher sales landing in the Oval Office. In 1996 Bill Clinton masks significantly outsold Bob Dole masks. In 2000 the margin was much closer, but more George W. Bush than Al Gore masks were sold. Bush mask sales also outpaced those of his 2004 challenger John Kerry. These days Barack Obama currently has the edge. As of last Friday, for every John McCain mask sold, two Obama masks leave stores. So as trick-or-treaters descend on our doors this October 31st, if we keep track of whether we give out candy to more Obamas or if we're visited more often by McCains we might not be surprised by the results on November 4th.
Talk about pirate's booty -- Johnny Depp is reportedly set to take home a record 60-million dollars for suiting up as "Captain Jack Sparrow" in a fourth Pirates of the Caribbeanflick. That would be the highest up-front paycheck in Hollywood history -- eclipsing Tom Hanks' salary for the upcoming DaVinci Code prequel, Angels and Demons, by five-million dollars. In the new film, Captain Jack will reportedly be searching for the elixir of eternal youth -- which could keep him making sequels for decades.
As we reported earlier, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host the November 12th CMA Awards in Nashville. The event will air live on ABC. This is the first time in 16 years that a male female pair have been tapped to host the show. The last time was in 1992 when Vince Gill and Reba McEntire did the honors.
Miranda Lambert doesn't turn 25 until November 10th, but she's planning to celebrate at Chicago hot spot Joe's Bar on November 1st and 2nd. She writes in her blog, "We're only playing covers. It's our favorite songs by our favorite artists and bands. I'm gonna have some friends show up and help me out, too. And the band guys will each do a song." Miranda may be starting a birthday tradition, since that's where she celebrated last year too. Ran also reports some new additions to her four-legged family, including a full-sized horse named Playboy that she's learning to ride, a kitten named Shelly who's already too spoiled to live in the barn, and two barn cats -- Maxine and Suzie Q -- who are destined to be mousers
Lee Ann Womack began studying with some of country's greatest voices when she was just 16 -- thanks to her cassette player. She tells us, "I had this Vince Gill cassette. He would do some real cool lick and I'd go, 'Oh, how did he do that?' and if you mash the rewind button down just like halfway, it goes back just a little bit, and you can listen over and over and over. I remember my mom finally going 'My God, Lee Ann. Would you stop doing that?'" Lee Ann's upcoming C-D, Call Me Crazy, includes guest spots from Keith Urban and George Strait. It will be in stores on October 21st.
Happy Housewives?
According to a new survey, men still think a woman’s place is in the home. According to a survey on www.handbag.com , 44% of men said they most value women who want to take care of the home. Thirty-nine percent of men thought cooking was a woman’s responsibility, and 33% felt cleaning was to be done by women. The survey also found that 38% of women look to men to provide financial stability. Only one in five thought men should cook and look after their home.
A British woman isn't going on vacation this year because she'd rather hear her cat meow. According to the "Daily Telegraph," Jean Kelly shelled out nearly eight-thousand dollars for surgery to repair her pet's paralyzed larynx. The entire process included two operations, a week in an oxygen tent, and four months of nursing care for the 13-year-old feline named Cadbury. The total bill was nearly 20-thousand dollars, but an insurance company paid 60 percent of it. Kelly was forced to put off her trip to Namibia as a result of the expensive surgery. She noted, quote, "It was never about me -- it was about Cadbury and his quality of life."

Voters in Bay County, Florida will not be getting one of those little lapel stickers indicating they voted next month. The stickers are supposed to be a symbol of civic pride and to encourage everyone to vote. But Bay County Supervisor of Elections Mark Andersen says some poll deputies have used the stickers as an excuse to touch voters inappropriately. Andersen says while the stickers cost his office some 600 dollars per election, his main concern is that inappropriate touching by one of his workers could lead to a costly lawsuit.
A Georgia family whose Golden Retriever disappeared on December 23, 2007, was stunned to learn their pet had traveled 425 miles to Florida. Liz Carter said the microchip planted under the skin of 7- year-old Pepper alerted a St. Petersburg, Florida, veterinarian to the fact that Pepper was a very long way from home. Pepper wandered into Jay Getman’s travel agency one afternoon last month and Getman took him to a vet to be checked out. The Carter family had given up hope of seeing see Pepper again and had even adopted another dog. Liz Carter drove to Florida to pick up Pepper and
bring him home.
A Village of Barker, New York, man is lucky to be alive after he was struck by lightning while filling his gas tank. William Hall said he was pumping gas at the K&K Food Mart when he was struck by lightning and knocked unconscious. He was unconscious for about five minutes before he woke up with a giant headache, sore muscles and small blisters on his elbow. The incident was caught on film by K&K security cameras.
A Dover, Tennessee, man named Tommy Fox crashed his car while being attacked by a real fox whose tail he intended to cut off. After Fox hit a red fox that had dashed in front of his SUV last week, he retrieved the seemingly dead animal from the roadway with plans to cut off its tail for a souvenir. But Tommy’s plans went awry when the animal regained consciousness in the back seat and attacked, causing him to lose control of his vehicle and flip it over into a ditch. Fox – the man – was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The animal was found dead in the vehicle, but it wasn’t clear if it had died from the initial collision or from the rollover. It was not known if Fox got his fox tail.
A 7-year-old boy broke into an Australian outback zoo and fed several rare animals to its resident crocodile named “Terry.” A turtle, four western blue tongue lizards, two bearded dragons, two thorny devil lizards and a few other animals were fed to the 440-pound saltwater croc. Security cameras at the Alice Springs Reptile Center also caught the boy bludgeoning to death a small blue tongue lizard and two more thorny devils during his 30-minute crime spree. The boy cannot be held accountable because he’s under 10 years of age. Officials are considering suing the parents.
Darius Rucker says family keeps him making music. He tells us, "I work and I do everything so my kids can have a better life. Sure, my job is great and I love making music and everything, but I could retire and sit around and everything, but life wouldn't be as good as it could be. And my wife is the most important, most beautiful person in my life." In fact, Darius's wife is so influential that she has veto power over what songs make his albums. He tells Ohio's Toledo Blade, "She influences every aspect of my life, and I respect her opinion above all else. Capitol [Records] could tell me a million times how good a song is, but if she doesn't think it's cool, it won't be on the record."
Taylor Swift and Def Leppard are the latest pairing for the "CMT Crossroads" series. The young country star teamed up with the veteran rock band to tape their episode in Nashville Monday night. Between them they have a lot of hits they could perform, and Swift and Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot note that having so many options made it difficult to craft a set list. Some tunes that made the cut include Swift's latest single, "Love Story," and "Teardrops On My Guitar" and Def Leppard's classic "Photograph." The Taylor Swift-Def Leppard "CMT Crossroads" is scheduled to make its debut on CMT on November 8th.
Brad Paisley is a well-known prankster on tour, but opening act Jewel recently turned the tables on him. When Brad sings "I'm Still a Guy," he has images flashed on a giant screen behind him. But Jewel used Photoshop to transpose his head onto women's bodies -- including those of Miss Universe, bikini models and little girls in tutus. Later in the night, when she was supposed to join Brad for the Merle Haggard classic "That's the Way Love Goes," she sent her tour manager, dressed like her, while she sang off stage. Brad could barely get through the song. But with three more dates, Brad still has time to plot his revenge.
