There are nights when the drive-through speaker is so loud it wakes up John and Patricia Andersen from their slumber. "Welcome to McDonald's, can I help you?" Patricia said, reciting the greeting she has come to loathe. Then come the orders, each recited back to the driver at decibel levels the Andersens say are indecent for the sleeping neighborhood. Big Macs, McNuggets, Quarter Pounders, McRibs. It's been this way for years, since the McDonald's opened three doors down from their Chicago home. Patricia says, "There are nights we like to keep the windows open. We can't even sleep. They repeat [the order] back. There's this one girl, she shouts into it. I can hear the whole order. It's crazy." John Andersen said he has asked the restaurant's managers repeatedly to turn down the volume. On several occasions, the manager told him to call the police, and he did. John said it was late and he never saw if officers arrived.

The last thing a hospital patient wants to see while facing surgery are vultures perched outside his or her window. Patients at the Orthopedic Hospital in Glendale, Wisconsin, about to go under the knife can watch up to six turkey vultures sitting on ledges of the three-story building. The birds have long been associated with death, but doctors say their patients aren’t taking it too seriously because not too many people die at the hospital, which deals with sports injuries more than life-threatening illnesses. Still, the birds cause a lot of conversation, hospital officials said.

The original owner is being traced and no arrests have been made.

The three teens in the other car said the man cocked the weapon, pointed it at them, and said: “Here’s your Grey Poupon.” One of the car’s occupants took down the man’s license plate number and the suspect admitted to the incident when confronted by officers. The man was charged with a third-degree felony count of aggravated
