TGIF! 7/18/08

Thanks so much for hanging out with us and kicking off your weekend with Wheelz 100.5! Carolina Country Cruizin will return Monday, God willing, to do it all over again! Keep it rolling with Wheelz 100.5!

A Camden County, New Jersey, woman is suing her orthopedic surgeon after he rubbed a temporary tattoo onto her body while she was under anesthesia. Elizabeth Mateo claims she did not realize until the morning after the surgery that the surgeon, Steven Kirshner, had left a temporary tattoo of a rose on her abdomen. The doctor admitted to placing the tattoo on Mateo, but he denied any ill intent. He said he often rubs temporary tattoos on patients as a means of helping to raise their spirits after a
stressful operation. I have name for this guy: He is the.temporary tattoo bandit

When Lillian Grogan's relatives arrived Monday at the funeral home before her wake, they noticed something about the hands of the woman in the casket. Grogan, who died July 10th at age 91, had lost a finger because of cancer, said her granddaughter, Amy Wasiel. The woman lying before them, wearing Grogan's peach shirt and bracelet, had all 10 of her fingers. Grogan's body, it turned out, had been turned over to another family, who buried her on Saturday. On Wednesday, Grogan's family laid her to rest the way they wanted, marking the end of a bizarre week in which the woman's body was exhumed by court order after a mix-up at a the funeral home.

Gretchen Wilson is quite busy these days working on a new album and releasing a new single, but she always makes time for being a mom to seven-year-old Grace. Wilson says Grace loves to read, and will even turn the TV off and read three chapters of a book in one sitting.

Jake Owen will be hitting the airwaves later this summer with new music. "Don't Think I Can't Love You" is the first single from his sophomore album, scheduled for release next year.

Julianne Hough is in the running for an Emmy. She received a nomination yesterday in the Outstanding Choreography category for a mambo routine she choreographed on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Hough will find out if she takes home the trophy when the Emmys air on ABC on September 13th.

The Internet is on fire with rumors that Garth Brooks will be a special guest at tonight's Billy Joel concert at New York's Shea Stadium. The show will be the last concert ever played at the ballpark before it is torn down in November. Other guests rumored to be part of the stadium's musical finale include Paul McCartney and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.

Yesterday was a good-news, bad-news day for Charlie Sheen. The good news? His Emmy nomination for Two and a Half Men. The bad news? Ex-wife Denise Richards went to court to ask the custody judge for an emergency order restricting Charlie's access to their two daughters, due to some unnamed issue in Sheen's house that she feels could have a negative impact. Things are on hold until Monday, when everybody's expected to be in court for another round in the Sheen-Richards custody saga.

Sugarland will appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “The View” next week. They’re slated to perform on both shows Tuesday, the same day their “Love On The Inside” deluxe fan edition is released

Josh Turner is gearing up to hit the road as he continues to support last year’s “Everything is Fine.” Turner’s itinerary shows 20 cities remaining on an outing that extends through mid-October. “Everything is Fine” spawned Turner’s third Top 10 single, “Firecracker,” which peaked at No. 2.

Martina McBride has four shows under her belt since launching her first headlining tour of amphitheaters earlier this month. The singer says she loves performing for her fans, noting the crowds inspire her on stage.

Jimmy Wayne has a top twenty hit on the charts and he couldn't be happier. The singer says knew immediately when he heard the demo of "Do You Believe Me Now" that it was a special song.

“The Simpsons” are headed back to the big screen. Creator Matt Groening has confirmed a sequel to last year’s hit movie is in the works. The animated comedy went feature-length and became a box office smash, earning more than $500 million at the box office. Groening warns fans they have a long wait ahead, considering the first film took four years to make.

Supermodel Heidi Klum’s legs have been insured for $2.2 million – but one leg is insured for $200,000 less than the other because of a scar. Klum’s right leg is insured for $1.2 million, but her left leg is only insured for $1 million because of the mark on her knee.

Christopher Robins and one of the Three Little Pigs are missing. They're actually statues that have gone missing from a South Dakota theme park. The thefts happened last week from Storybook Island in Rapid City. The Nursery Rhyme children's park is free and has a mission to provide an educational experience while using the power of imagination. However, somebody stole some statues and not all have been recovered. One turned up near an intersection but a pig and Robins are still missing.

A Miami man who held up a McDonald’s at gunpoint in 1994 is now promoting the restaurant’s signature sandwich in a song. Tamien Bain is among five finalists in the fast food chain’s contest for a new jingle promoting the Big Mac. Bain was arrested on Memorial Day 1994 for the holdup. He served 12 years in prison, where he became interested in music. Bain says he was up front with contest officials about his past when applying for the MySpace.com/BigMacChant competition. The public has until Sunday to vote. The winner gets a trip to Los Angeles and their song will be featured in a national McDonald’s ad.

An Ocala, Florida, man who’s been paying $800 a month in rent has discovered his landlord is a fake. Carl Kopsho was at a gas station in January, telling friends he was looking for a place to live. Tyrone Grain approached and offered to help. He showed Kopsho the house and they signed a lease. The real homeowner called police on Wednesday to say he suspected someone was living in the house, which was supposed to be vacant. Police are still looking for Grain. Kopsho hopes he can continue renting the home from the real owner.

Mara Ranger was removing clothes from a washing machine at her Maine home on Wednesday when she pulled out an 8-foot python. Maine Animal Damage Control operator Richard Burton says the snake probably got into Ranger’s washing machine through water pipes. The snake has been taken to the York Animal Kingdom in York, Maine.

Fire investigators said a fire that destroyed a Mendota Heights, Minnesota, home last week was caused by a flowerpot that spontaneously combusted. While rare, spontaneous combustion can happen to pots with the right mixture of soil, moisture and heat. Homeowner Dan Stoven said he’s just glad his 17-year-old daughter was able to escape when passers-by entered the home to wake her up. Investigators said the soil was in a plastic pot that had become hot after several days of high temperatures and humidity. It ignited and high winds helped the fire spread.

There is a deer with a death wish in Florence he is roaming between 327 and Irby street on Ashby road between the hours of 4:30 and 5:30am just a warning. I know if Bambi keeps running out in front of me I see deer jerky in my future! Please use caution when traveling that road during those hours!
