Tuesday Morning in Wheelz Country-7/1/08

Wow today is the halfway point to the end of the year... so now we start counting the days to Christmas! Okay, well maybe we'll wait a few months for that but just keep it rolling with Wheelz 100.5! If you didn't hear this is what you missed this morning!

Microsoft stopped selling its Windows XP operating system to retailers and major computer makers yesterday, despite protests from PC users who don’t want to be forced into using XP’s successor, Vista. Once computers loaded with XP have been cleared from the inventory of PC makers such as Dell and HP, consumers will have to buy Vista. Microsoft will still allow smaller mom-and-pop PC shops to buy XP for resale through the end of January. A version of XP will also remain available for low-price PCs. Microsoft said last week it would provide full tech support for Windows XP through 2009, and limited support through 2014.

“Uncle Sam” ticketed 200 motorists in Central Florida yesterday. Police officers dressed like Uncle Sam will ticket speeding motorists, red-light runners, aggressive and intoxicated drivers over the next week in an effort to keep roadways safe for the Fourth of July week. Some drivers said they were fooled by the costume. “I saw Uncle Sam standing out there in his outfit so I tooted the horn,” driver Richard Miller said. “The next thing I know I’ve got red and blue lights flashing behind me.”

Two people caught skinny dipping in a Portland, Oregon, reservoir that is a main source of water for the city almost caused officials to dump millions of gallons of water and close the facility. Ryan Langsdorf, 28, and Ashley Moyer, 23, were found in one of two sections of the Mount Tabor Reservoir at about 3 a.m. Saturday. They were cited for trespassing. Thankfully the two were swimming in a section of the reservoir that was not being used. Had that section been in use, water bureau officials say they would have had to dump millions of gallons of water from and possibly shut off the reservoir. Earlier this year, millions of gallons of water were dumped when someone put latex paint, a construction cone and hundreds of flyers into the water.

A morning on the golf course turned into a pretty eventful few hours for some men in Wisconsin when they were robbed while playing. The four men and their two caddies were on the 16th tee at Milwaukee's Brynwood Country Club on Saturday when a masked robber came out of the woods to hold them up. He then disappeared into the woods near the club but it didn't stop the foursome from completing their round as they finished the game following the stickup. The club added security to the course on Sunday.

A Cape Cod, Massachusetts, 10-year-old reached into the family toilet and pulled out two wedding rings that the owners said had been lost for 12 years. Cameron Delonde dropped his toothbrush into the commode and when he fished the item out, he discovered two diamond rings. Delonde and his father enlisted the help of a real estate agent to track down the daughter of the former owner of their home, Mary Trainor, who died five years ago. Trainor’s daughter said she and her brother had searched for the heirlooms for years and were delighted to have them back in the family.

A 46-year-old Deland, Florida, man was arrested after he threw a 3-pound pack of Polish sausage at his mother. Gregory Allan Praeger was charged with battery on Saturday after the incident at the woman’s home. Praeger’s mother told police that her son was drinking and they got into an argument. She said Praeger picked up the pack of sausage and threw it at her, grazing the back of
her head. When cops asked Praeger what happened, he asked officers if they wanted him to lie. He then admitted that he threw the sausage at his mother.

A housewife is getting her ninth boob job to take her to a G-G cup. 28-year-old mom-of-one Sheyla Hershey is already a 34-Triple-F and has a place in the record books. She carries more than two liters of silicone in her implants and has had eight surgeries in five years. She says, "I think big boobies look beautiful. I am just following my dream and I won't let anyone stop me." Sheyla, who lives in Texas, plans to fly back to her native Brazil to get the op done. She cannot get them enlarged in the U-S because laws limit the amount of silicone a person can have in each breast. Doctor Robert Rey, plastic surgeon to the stars, has allegedly warned her, "Your breasts could literally burst."

What’s cooking?
George Strait will be releasing a C-D of classic Christmas songs in the near future. The album, which was originally available only in Hallmark stores a few years back, includes favorites like "We Three Kings," "Deck the Halls" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

The always stylish Sara Evans will be a special guest on Sunday's edition of H-G-T-V's Design Star, the show that pits designers against each other to win their own T-V show. Sara will pick up the contestants in her tour bus and take them to her home, where she shows the designers her style -- shabby chic, comfy sofas and soft colors. The show airs Sunday at 9:00 p-m [ET]

Jessica Simpson feels at home in the world of country music. She writes in her online journal that she's met some really amazing people while crossing the country promoting her debut country single, "Come on Over." Jess says, "I feel like I found my place again." And Jessica recently told us that she never felt comfortable as a pop singer and is happy to leave that world behind. "I'm really ready to show people that I actually sing again. People really forgot."

Eddie Murphy, like most critics, has apparently had enough of Eddie Murphy movies. Although he's about to revive Beverly Hills Cop for another go-round, Murphy tells Extra, "50 years [old], I'll have been making movies 30 years and I have close to 50 movies, and it is like, why am I in the movies? I've done that part now. I'll go back to the stage and do standup."

Willie's Place at Carl's Corner, Texas -- Willie Nelson's entertainment hub and truck stop -- reopens today with special guests David Allan Coe and Ray Wylie Hubbard performing at Willie's Place Theater. The filling station, which pumps Bio-Willie -- Willie's premium blend of bio-diesel fuel, is the country's largest "green" truck stop.

Trisha Yearwood says recording her new single, "They Call It Falling for a Reason," was a no-brainer. She says, "What I love about this song is that it's about falling flat on your face in a romance and it says that in a way that's funny. I love the imagery in that first line that says, 'He had me spinning like a girl in a circus in a trapeze act.'"

Blake Shelton has made Michael Buble's pop smash "Home" a big hit at country radio and it didn't take any effort at all. He tells us, "When I listen to it, it doesn't sound like a pop song to me, it sounds like a country record. Blake performed "Home" last night on N-B-C's Nashville Star and is currently working on his next C-D.

Britney Spears wants to flee Beverly Hills so her two sons can grow up in a "lower-density, more-quiet and less-trafficked neighborhood" -- one with parks and playgrounds -- according to recently filed court documents. She's put the seven-million-dollar Beverly Hills pleasure palace she bought last year up for sale and is reportedly thinking about a move to the Valley. Of course, once Britney hits the neighborhood, the less quiet and more traffic -- in the form of roving bands of paparazzi
