Olympic golden boy Michael Phelps is finding out that fame could afford him with some interesting social opportunities. Extra T-V reports Carrie Underwood as saying that she's developed a crush on Michael. Hearing the news, Michael told the entertainment show, "That's pretty cool."

Mayhem ensued on Miranda Lambert's Oklahoma farm last week when the country star decided to introduce her dogs to free range chickens. In her
online blog she explains that her plan was to let the chickens out to roam then to release her dogs one by one to desensitize them to the birds with the help of low voltage shock collars. However things ran awry as soon as they started with chickens, pigs and miniature horses everywhere, and dogs unscathed by any of the chaos. She writes, "We finally got the chickens out of the pig pen and the pigs out of the dog pen and all seemed good for a minute...then I look over and Adrianna and Annie -- the mini horses -- are chasing Amos -- the potbelly -- through the pasture! If you have never seen a spoiled, overweight potbelly try to run it's quite a sight not to mention being chased by two horses that are two-and-a-half feet tall."

James Otto is proving to have great acting chops with the release of the video for his current single "For You." The tune, written by Jim Brown and Liz Hengber, may be a broken-hearted ballad, but James' love life is anything but sad. He tells us, "My wife is the most supportive, sweetest person on the earth and honestly, in this business, it is so difficult. You have to have really thick skin and you have to have somebody that really believes in you." "For You" is airing on C-M-T now.

Jessica Simpson is surprised that Carrie Underwood would tell Allure magazine that Jess' boyfriend Tony Romo still calls her. In a radio interview, Jessica mentions that she respects Carrie and that she and Tony don't understand why she would say such a thing. But Carrie's claim doesn't make her feel insecure. She says, "I think that if he wanted to be with her he would."

Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow and Miley Cyrus are among the 15 female singers who will take part in a televised special titled “Stand Up to Cancer,” which will air simultaneously on ABC, NBC and CBS on September 5th. Blige, Mariah Carey, Ciara, Keyshia Cole, Melissa Etheridge, Fergie, Leona Lewis and Rihanna. After earning eight gold medals, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps has earned a place of honor on the front of specially-marked Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes and Kellogg’s Corn Flakes cereal boxes, expected to hit grocery stores in mid-September. The boxes will feature images of Phelps during some of the most memorable Olympic moments.

When Pat Green shouted, "Anyone got a beer?" at a concert last Saturday at Michigan International Speedway, he got an answer real quick. Cans of beer started whizzing across the stage, with one can striking Green right between the eyes. The impact knocked him out cold, ending the concert.

Jimmy Wayne will make an in-store appearance in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina next Thursday before heading to Las Vegas, Nevada to perform on the 43rd annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon. Jimmy will join other celebrities including Montgomery Gentry in taking part in the fundraising event. Wayne will perform his single "Do You Believe Me Now," the title track to his upcoming album, which has hit the top five on the "Country Aircheck" singles chart. It's his first top five single since "Stay Gone" peaked at number three back in 2003. Wayne's sophomore CD will be released next Tuesday.

The agency that invented the “do not call” registry is tightening rules restricting prerecorded telephone sales calls. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) says telemarketers with prerecorded calls must give consumers a way to opt out, the same way that they can now ask live sales agents to stop bugging them. The new rule goes into effect on December 1st. And, as of September 1, 2009, the telemarketer must have consumers’ written consent to telephone them at all.

Stashes of illicit Nigerian cash, free laptops and phones, the list of things you can receive from forwarding a few chain e-mails is apparently without limit. As most of us are aware, these e-mails are hoaxes. The minority who fall victim to them keep these hoaxes alive and the scammers and spammers in business. The most effective means of combating this issue is education via sites like Hoaxbusters, an information-rich trove of warnings. Hoaxbuster’s has important information like five telltale signs to identifying a hoax message.

According to an outfit called BIGresearch, “When asked to ‘vote’ as if the election were held today, Wal*Mart, Kohl’s and JCPenney shoppers are more likely to vote for McCain while Macy’s and Target shoppers say they would cast a ballot for Obama.”
John McCain’s biggest supporters: Barack Obama’s biggest supporters:
JCPenney shoppers (42.8%) Macy’s shoppers (47.2%)
Wal*Mart shoppers (41.4%) Target shoppers (41.5%)
Surprisingly, more Wal*Mart shoppers actually identify themselves as Democrats. JCPenney shoppers are split down the middle. Another shock – Target and Macy’s shoppers are more likely to be Democrat. Kohl’s shoppers tend to be Republicans.

This couple won't have to argue about how to spend their lottery winnings. That's because the Mount Horeb, Wisconsin husband and wife each won their own 350-thousand-dollar jackpots in this weekend's SuperCash state lottery. Lottery officials said Verlyn Adamson bought his winning ticket at a gas station and his wife Judith bought hers from a convenience store. Verlyn Adamson is an accountant who says he's a big fan of math puzzles. He claims he developed a secret formula that has helped him make money in the lottery over the last 20 years, although he says his winnings have been small compared to this jackpot. He said his wife, who is his boss at work, had asked if she could play the same numbers he played.

Anthony Franz had started to eat healthy, but the salmon salad he ordered for lunch from Chicago's Shaw's Crab House in August 2006 wasn't the best choice, according to a lawsuit filed Monday. Franz says he became violently ill for several days after eating that salad and later "passed a nine-foot tapeworm." A pathologist determined the giant tapeworm only has one source -- "undercooked fish, such as salmon," according to court papers. Franz wants more than a refund. He's seeking 100-thousand dollars for his pain, suffering, lost time from work and "lost enjoyment of life."

A two-headed turtle is missing. Sean Casey says someone has swiped the rare reptile from his animal rescue service and pet supply store in Brooklyn. He says the turtle was taken Sunday night, hours after a reporter from the Daily News had come to do a story on it. The turtle was sent to Casey by a Florida man who wasn’t able to take care of it. Casey says the turtle needs help eating, because the two heads fight over the food. Casey’s customers are offering a $1,000 reward fund for the twoheaded turtle’s safe return.

A former employee of an Elko, Nevada, Pizza Hut called the manager last Friday and told him he had five Pizza Hut signs that are used on the roofs of vehicles. He said he wouldn’t return them unless he was paid $500. The manager wanted proof, so the thief sent him a cell phone picture of the signs. Officers were able to zoom in on license plate numbers of two vehicles in the background that are registered to the man. He’s been charged with extortion, possession of stolen property and grand larceny

A Puerto Rican man has been granted his wish to remain standing – even in death. A funeral home used a special embalming concoction to keep the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pantoja Medina standing upright for his three-day wake. Wearing a Yankees cap and sunglasses, Angel was propped up in his mother’s living room. His brother Carlos said Angel always said he wanted to be upright for his wake. Pantoja was found dead Friday underneath a bridge in San Juan. Police are investigating.

Well, it turns out Bigfoot is nothing but a hunk of rubber. Two researchers on a mission to prove the existence of Bigfoot said the carcass, encased in a block of ice, was handed over to them for an undisclosed amount of money by two men who claimed to have found Bigfoot. The block of ice was thawed out and found to be a rubber gorilla suit. Matt Whitton, an officer who has been on medical leave from the Clayton County (GA) Police Department, and Rick Dryer, a former Georgia corrections officer, announced the find last month on YouTube. Whitton said at the time, “Everyone who has talked down to us is going to eat their words.” Clayton County Police Chief Jeff Turner said yesterday he has already processed paperwork to fire Whitton. “Once he perpetrated a fraud, that goes into his credibility and integrity,” Turner said. “He has violated the duty of a police officer.”

Police in Springhill Township, Pennsylvania, say an 85-year-old grandmother grabbed her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call 911 while she kept him in her sights. Leda Smith heard someone break into her home Monday afternoon. She grabbed the .22- caliber revolver next to her bed and waited. A 17-year-old boy appeared and Smith told him to get his hands in the air and not to make any sudden moves.

A Michigan State Police trooper fatally shot a 7-foot long Burmese python that slithered onto a road and was lunging at a passing pickup truck. Motorist Brian Ahlin called 911 Monday after seeing the snake in the middle of the road, just a few feet from a park. Ahlin says the snake tried to attack his truck and continued to do so even after he repeatedly ran over the reptile. Trooper William Coon arrived and used his .40-caliber handgun to kill the snake. Authorities say the python likely was a pet that either escaped from its owner or was deliberately released because of its size.
