German doctors have succeeded in transplanting two complete arms onto a 54-year-old man in what the Munich hospital said was the world’s first operation of its kind. The surgery took 15 hours and a team of 40 doctors and support staff. The recipient was a farmer who lost both arms in an accident six years ago. One of the main obstacles for full-arm transplants is finding donors.

A Cleveland clothing store has opened a bar in the middle of its sales floor. M. Lang Executive Attire owner Mike Lang said he hopes the cash bar will not only help put shoppers in a relaxed mood to buy clothing but also will encourage people to hang out at the shop with their friends. Lang said when he approached the Ohio Department of Liquor Control he was told they’d never had anyone request a liquor license for a clothing store. After 20 years of catering to men, the store also added women’s
apparel recently.

Another case of kids driving:
Police in Stanford, Kentucky, say a 4-year-old boy put his 2-year-old brother in the family car and headed off to his grandmother’s house. The 4-year-old began his journey while his mother and her boyfriend were asleep on Saturday. The little boy adjusted the seat and started the car, but ran through a fence and into some trees before he could get to granny’s house. Neither boy was hurt. The boyfriend was arrested for menacing after he made a threatening gesture toward the boys and the deputy who was investigating. The boys’ mother was reported to child protective services.

A year-long study of children’s meals has revealed vast dietary differences among America’s favorite fast-food and sit-down chain restaurants, according to the authors of the new book “Eat This, Not That! For Kids.” Co-authors David Zinczenko and Matt Goulding calculated calories, fat (trans- and saturated), and sodium, as well as the average number of calories per child’s entree, and discovered that many of America’s most popular chain restaurants are nutritional nightmares. The result is a Restaurant Report Card that holds each food chain accountable for the fare they’re serving. Did your favorite restaurant make the grade?

We talked to Kiefer Sutherland about shooting the 24 prequel in Africa. It airs in November and sets up the season that starts in January. He saw a grim picture on the continent, telling us, "There is no question there is an unbelievable economic depravity on the continent of Africa, and a level of violence that has been unparalleled. [There is a] massive problem in how the world has dealt with Africa [and] no one can justify going there because they have no viable reason, meaning oil or money."

“The Dark Knight” hauled in $43.8 million to rank as Hollywood’s top movie for the third-straight weekend, fending off “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” which opened a close second with $42.5 million. “The Dark Knight” has soared to a $394.9 million haul in just 17 days. The Batman flick should sail past the $400 million mark by today or tomorrow, said Warner Bros. The previous $400 million record-holder was “Shrek
2,” which hit that mark in 43 days.

A hankering for special sauce at his neighborhood Subway led a Jacksonville, Florida man to dial 9-1-1 -- twice -- after the sauce was left off his spicy Italian sandwich. Reginald Peterson, 42, told officers he called the emergency number so he could have his subs made correctly, according to a police report. A few minutes later, he dialed 9-1-1 again to complain that the police weren't arriving fast enough. Peterson walked into the Arlington shop and ordered two subs -- a spicy Italian with everything and a chicken breast. When he discovered the spicy Italian didn't have sauce, he demanded that it be corrected, according to a police report. Employees told police the burly construction worker became belligerent while a sandwich-maker was working on his order, then he went outside to call 9-1-1 "so that the police could have his sandwich made to his specifications," the report said. When officers showed up, they said, they attempted to calm Peterson and explain the proper use of 9-1-1. Those efforts failed, and he was arrested on a charge of making false 9-1-1 calls. As for the sandwiches, Peterson instructed officers to throw them in the garbage.

Tourism officials on the Caribbean island of Grenada say they are concerned about dog owners snatching starfish out of the sea and throwing them like flying discs for their dogs to catch. Russ Fielden, president of the local hotel and tourism association, says officials have received several reports of the practice and are launching an education campaign to stop it. Fielden says treating starfish this way is "cruel and should be strongly discouraged." He says the sea creatures are being left to die on the island's popular Grand Anse beach and also are creating a foul smell.

The winner of Nashville Star will be crowned tonight on N-B-C. With the field down to the final three and votes already cast, the fates of Gabe Garcia, Shawn Mayer and Melissa Lawson have already been decided. After a shaky start and questionable casting, judge and mentor John Rich feels like the remaining contestants have what it takes to make strides in country music. He says, "In the beginning it was a lot of riff-raff. I think N-B-C was trying to make good television, disregarding the fact that people had no business singing country music." The winning contestant's first single, "What If It All Goes Right," will be released tomorrow morning. Nashville Star airs tonight at 10:00 p-m

Kenny Chesney headed to Jamaica to shoot the video for his new single, "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" from his upcoming Lucky Old Sun C-D. Kenny says, "There is a real soul to that island. When you're in Jamaica, it is so real...and so alive -- you know there's more to life than just what you see. When you're singing about the notion of wanting to go to heaven, it is pretty much a bit of heaven on earth, but it's also a place where you get the sense there's more to life than just what we experience here." While in Jamaica, Kenny called on Bob Marley's legendary band The Wailers to be part of the clip. "I can't even begin to tell you how great it was to work with them. They were so generous with us in terms of their time and the stories they'd tell us. We sat up one night on the beach, and they shared the whole history of the band, the struggles they had. I got to interview them for something we may do later." Lucky Old Sun is scheduled for release this fall.
