One of America’s most beloved foods is under attack. A new TV commercial shows kids eating hot dogs in a school cafeteria and one boy commenting: “I was dumbfounded when the doctor told me I have late-stage colon cancer.” The boy doesn’t have colon cancer, but the pro-vegetarian sponsor of the spot say it is a dramatization that highlights research linking processed meats – including hot dogs – with higher odds of getting colon cancer. The health concerns primarily come from the high fat and salt content and sodium nitrate and nitrite in hot dogs. Health experts say that while hot dogs aren’t exactly health food, eating one occasionally probably won’t kill you. The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council says U.S. consumers spent more than $4 billion on hot dogs and sausages last year. That includes more than 1.5 billion pounds of hot dogs and sausages purchased at retail stores alone.

Oscar-winner Cher may need to sharpen her claws. According to Britain's "Telegraph," the 62-year-old singer and actress is in talks to play Catwoman in the next "Batman" film, to be called "The Caped Crusader." A studio executive tells the newspaper the new Catwoman will, quote, "be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfieffer and Halle Berry's purring creations." Both of those actresses have played the role in previous films. "The Caped Crusader" is expected to begin filming next year. Actor Johnny Depp has reportedly been approached to play The Riddler in the flick. The latest "Batman" movie, "The Dark Knight," is now in theatres and has already earned more than 870-million-dollars at box offices worldwide.

A computer glitch in the system for filing flight plans caused huge delays in air traffic yesterday. The Department of Homeland Security said there was no link to terrorism and the FAA said the glitch did not affect its ability to track planes in the air. Flights from Dallas and Chicago to the East Coast were delayed. The problem began at 1:25 p.m. (GMT) when a communications link failed in the system that processes flight plans at a facility south of Atlanta. The only other flight plan facility, in Salt Lake City, took on the extra load… You would think with all the extra charges they could be on time!

Barbara Waskey has been charged with torching her husband’s Harley in Ocean City, Maryland. Police say she stuffed a towel in the gas tank of Joseph Waskey’s motorcycle and set it on fire. Police arrived at the scene and saw Joseph trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. No word what sparked Barbara’s need for revenge. She’s been charged with arson.

A tree in Alabama was saved from being cut down a year ago to make way for power lines has been uprooted. A woman took on the cause last year by chaining herself to the 75-year-old pecan tree in the town of Jacksonville to prevent Alabama Power from cutting it down. The case landed in a court and she was handed a victory with the utility deciding not to fight it. However, a storm rolled through the area Monday night, knocked the tree over and laid it to rest on Wilson's front porch. Wilson got lucky when some of its limbs got caught in power lines and kept the full weight of the tree from crashing into her house.

Running, riding and swimming is no way to escape police and a man in south Minneapolis found that out the hard way. Police say the 51-year-old was spotted rummaging through a parked car last week and he hopped on a bicycle before cutting through some yards to get away. Authorities picked his trail up again a short time later and he took off running. He then jumped into a lake and swam to an anchored boat. It took some negotiations but police finally managed to talk him into swimming ashore. He was arrested and charged with fleeing police and motor vehicle tampering.

An Ohio woman admits she set her home on fire after she got mad at her boyfriend and torched his clothes. The woman is in her fifties and told fire officials in Columbus she was upset at her boyfriend over an argument and piled his clothes on a chair before setting them ablaze. The flames were first reported at about seven yesterday morning and left the woman in the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The boyfriend had already left the duplex before the fire started but her dog was inside and had to be rescued. Damage to the place was estimated at about 40-thousand-dollars.

How much would you pay for a nap? Nicholas Ronco started a Manhattan business called Yelo that sells naps. Customers step inside a soundproof YeloCab, a cozy cabin engineered for maximum tranquility, to sleep. Yelo opened in February 2007. Since then, more than 4,000 nappers have stopped in. Clientele ranges from corporate executives to “disco nappers” who stop by on Saturday afternoons to rev up before a hard night on the town. A snooze at Yelo costs $15 for 20 minutes. A 40-minute nap will set you back $28. In its first year, the nap shop booked revenue of $400,000; for next year, Ronco projects sales of $1.3 million.

Officials in charge of the Green Bike program in Green Bay, Wisconsin, said that of the 30 bikes put into circulation, 22 are missing and eight need repairs. The bikes were made free for use by the public on the condition they are returned to one of five drop-off points in the city. Officials believe some of the bikes have been stolen while others may not have been properly returned.

A Belleville, Michigan, woman accidentally sold a DVD at a garage sale that contained at least $1,200. Tracy Holmes sold her husband’s “Sin City” DVD for $10. Her husband asked her about the DVD about a week later and told her that he had hidden at least $1,200 in the DVD case for a family Christmas trip to Disney World. Holmes is holding out hope that the buyer, described as a 6-foot-tall man in his 50s or 60s, will discover the money and return it.

Charges have been dropped against a grandmother who registered her Australian shepherd-terrier mix to vote. Jane Balogh, of Federal Way, Washington, reached a plea agreement last year that required her to perform 10 hours of community service at the Tacoma Rescue Mission and to pay $240 in court costs. On Monday, a judge dismissed charges of making a false or misleading statement to a public servant. Balogh said she registered her dog under the name Duncan M. Donald to demonstrate how easy voter fraud has become. She used a utility bill in the dog’s name as identification for voter registration and to obtain an absentee ballot. She returned the ballot signed with a paw print.

A 12-year-old boy who took his grandmother’s car led police on a car chase at speeds up to 60 mph before crashing into a fence. The boy was treated for minor injuries before being taken to the Nueces County (TX) Juvenile Justice Center. Corpus Christie police spotted the kid in the car late Monday at a stop sign near his grandparents’ home. When an officer approached the boy, he sped away and the pursuit began. Authorities put spikes in the road to stop him. While swerving to avoid them, he lost control of the car and crashed into a fence.

A 1991 Chevy Silverado that has more than 1 million miles on it is still for sale. Frank Oresnik said he failed to sell the truck during a 10-day auction on eBay that ended Sunday. He had placed a minimum bid of $30,000, and said all he got was a couple of feelers. Oresnik is putting the truck back on eBay this week with no minimum bid. Frank purchased the Silverado 12 years ago when it had 41,000 miles on it. He used it to deliver seafood in three states, putting on about 85,000 miles a year.

Uma Thurman and fiancé Arpad Busson have been busted skinny-dipping in an Italian lake. The couple was spotted in the water just hours after joining Liam Neeson and wife Natasha Richardson for dinner.

Jimmy Wayne went on one wild ride the last time he was in New York City recently. For Jimmy, the scariest theme park ride has nothing on a trip in a New York taxi cab. Jimmy writes in his MySpace blog, "There's a strap you nold onto that hang from the roof of the cab, and they are there for a reason. You never know when the driver is going to stop or go, or make a sudden turn. And they're always blowing their horns. It's a real Broadway show." Jimmy was in New York to promote his just released album, Do You Believe Me Now.

Some of music’s most respected artists join together in tribute to the Reverend Billy Graham for the October 7th release of “Billy: The Early Years,” the soundtrack to the film opening on October 10th. Brooks & Dunn join Third Day’s Mac Powell to open the film with their cover of Johnny Cash’s “Over The Next Hill.” Sara Evans delivers the album’s first single, “Low,” which is due in September. Michael W. Smith sings “Amazing Love” with Season Six “American Idol” finalist Melinda Doolittle. Others contributing to the soundtrack include Alan Jackson, Brandon Heath, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Roy Orbison, Josh Turner and Brad Paisley.

Sara Evans, who hit the road in late June, has expanded her North American tour into the fall. The outing continues Friday in Morton, Minnesota, and crisscrosses the U.S. through mid-October. Evans has tacked on shows in Minneapolis and Davenport, Iowa, as well as a half dozen fall dates from the Midwest to the Southeast. Last October, Evans celebrated 10 years in the music business with the release of “Greatest Hits,” which bowed at No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and reached No. 3 on the Top Country Albums chart. Her voice can also be heard on the new version of the classic Libby’s jingle, which debuts next month. Evans is the first celebrity to record the tune, and she’s partnering with Libby’s Vegetables to designate September as “Get Back to the Table Month.”

Keith Urban has been diagnosed with a slipped disc, but his tour schedule has not been affected. Urban hinted at the problem Saturday night during a concert in Kelseyville, California. His publicist confirmed the slipped disc but declined to elaborate on the cause and severity of the injury. Urban is scheduled to travel to Canada to headline Saturday’s Country Rocks Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He will also be in New York City on September 5th for a couple of special events. In addition to performing at NFL’s Kickoff Show with Usher, Urban will tape the “Fashion Rocks” concert with BeyoncĂ©, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Duffy, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock and others at Radio City Music Hall for a CBS special to air September 9th.

Miranda Lambert followed in the footsteps of Loretta Lynn when it came to promoting her first single, "Texas Pride." She tells Garden and Gun magazine, "When they [radio] started playing me, my mom and I did just like Loretta. We got in the car, a Ford Expedition, with a cooler of bologna sandwiches and my guitar and we traveled all over Texas. We would literally drive into a town and look for a radio tower. Sometimes they wouldn't let me in the door and sometimes they would let me on the air." The single, "Texas Pride," is from Miranda's 2001 independent C-D of the same title.

Fans can get a glimpse of Clay Walker’s new baby boy. The singer has posted a picture of William on his Web site for his registered fans. William was born August 5th in Houston. He’s the first child for Walker and wife Jessica. Walker also has two daughters from his first marriage.

Gary Allan will be on the road through the end of the year. Allan continues his current outing Friday night in Milwaukee. Gary continues to support last year’s “Living Hard,” which peaked at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and produced two charting singles – “Watching Airplanes” and “Learning How to Bend.”

Kenny Rogers is offering his newest album exclusively through Cracker Barrel. “Kenny Rogers: 50 Years” is on sale now. The CD includes three new songs, “She’ll Believe in You,” “Something’s Wrong In Vegas,” and “Only Time Will Tell,” as well as Rogers’ classic hit songs including “The Gambler,” “Lucille,” and “Coward of the County.”
