Rodney Atkins gets a rush of adrenalin every time he hits the stage. He tells Ohio's CantonRep-dot-com, "I used to get crazy-nervous, but I've learned the audience's approval and energy is what drives me to give the best possible show I'm capable of every time." Rodney's been out on the road with Brooks and Dunn's Cowboy Town Tour, which has been an educational experience for him. He told us, "I'm learning the whole time about production. It's a whole new level of what you can do." After a couple of fair dates, Rodney heads back on the road with Brooks and Dunn for a show in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 5th.

Billy Ray Cyrus celebrates his 47th birthday today. It was 16 years ago that he burst into country music with "Achy, Breaky Heart" and, while his music took a back seat to acting for a few years, the dad of Hannah Montana is experiencing renewed popularity. He tells us, "It goes back to what Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins and Waylon, those guys always said, 'Just keep doing what you do and stay true to yourself and your music. Things always come back around in country music.'" Billy Ray's new album, Back to Tennessee, is scheduled for a November 18th release and features his current single, "Somebody Said a Prayer."
A hand-made Chinese wedding bed that once belonged to Johnny and June Carter Cash is now up for sale. According to "The Tennessean" newspaper, the ebony bed, which measures ten foot square, was purchased by the Cash's in 1989 from an antique dealer in Lebanon, Tennessee. It can be seen in "Mariners & Musicians," the documentary on Johnny's daughter Rosanne Cash. The bed is now on display at the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville. Curator Renee White says the bed fits together like a Rubik's Cube and is very detailed in its carving. The bed will be at the museum through the end of this month.

Country star Dolly Parton is alive and well. The singer's public relations agent Pete Owens tells Knoxville, Tennessee's WBIR-TV he believes rumors of Parton's demise started circulating last Friday, after word of her succumbing to congestive heart failure was erroneously announced at a high school football game. He notes that he's not sure where the people at the game got their information. Owens says Parton has opted against issuing an official statement herself to verify that she's still among the living, adding that she doesn't want to address it.

The site includes details about the scent and behind-the-scenes footage of McGraw on the set of the video. Fans can also sign on for updates about the fall launch of the new product. Tim's manager Scott Siman acknowledges that Coty has been a great partner in this new venture. Trisha Yearwood had no idea how much of a do-it-yourself project her cookbook would become. She tells Redbook magazine the original idea was to hire a writer to do the book. But after compiling the recipes, Yearwood ended up doing the actual writing. “Georgia Cooking In An Oklahoma Kitchen” ended up on the New York Times best-sellers list. Yearwood is on the cover of Redbook’s September issue.

Jimmy Wayne notes that he's had many life-altering experiences in his 35 years. The singer says that releasing his hit single "Do You Believe Me Now" is one of those. He admits that he'll probably never forget the day he played it for Big Machine president Scott Borchetta, noting it was a significant moment. Wayne says the first time he heard "Do You Believe Me Now" he got very excited because he knew it could be the song that kick-started his career. Not only did it become his latest single, "Do You Believe Me Now" is also the title track from his new album which will be in stores on Tuesday.

If you need a new car, get yourself into a fender bender with George Clooney. The two-time "Sexiest Man Alive" reportedly rear-ended the back of a woman's car in Italy, causing minor damage. When she went to pick up the cracked vehicle from the repair shop, she found a brand new 28-thousand-dollar car with a note reading, "I'm so sorry. Hope you'll forgive me. George Clooney."
They survived war, but for some veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, returning to work hasn’t been easy. For those in the National Guard and Reserves, returning to a civilian job at a workplace such as a bank can be difficult. Also, some veterans have complained that they can’t find work after leaving the military because employers are hesitant to hire them. The Labor Department has now made resources available to employers to help them better understand the mental health issues veterans face. The American Kennel Club, American Pet Products Manufacturers Association and Cyber-Pet have released new surveys on American pet owners. The surveys found that pet ownership is at an alltime high in the United States. More than 71 million homes – 63% of all U.S. households – have at least one pet. Here are some other highlights, compiled by the Detroit Free Press:
· Top pets: dogs (44.8%), followed by cats (38.4%) and freshwater fish (14.2%).
· There are 142 million freshwater fish and 88.3 million cats in U.S. homes, compared with 74.8 million dogs.
· Americans will spend $43.4 billion on pets in 2008.
· On average, food and veterinarian care for a dog costs about $890 annually, compared with $726 for a cat.
· More than half of pet owners say they’ve bought at least one gift for their pet in the last year.
· 19% of dog owners take Fido along on vacation.
· More than 20% of owners say their dogs sleep with them regularly.
Imagine filling-up your 20-gallon gas tank for seven dollars, just as your parents, or maybe even your grandparents did 40 years ago. It happened for a few hours last week at one Omaha, Nebraska gas station. It wasn't some kind of special promotion, but a computer error that caused the special pricing. Customers at the convenience store found the 35-cent-per-gallon deal, starting around 5:00 p.m. Then, dozens of cars lined-up to take advantage of the glitch. By around 8:30, store employees finally realized something was wrong and put a stop to it. No word how much money the station owner lost because of the error.
The star you were born under and your birth order may determine how successful you are. A new survey by CareerBuilder.com has found that a higher percentage of workers who were the first born in their families earned one-hundred-thousand-dollars or more annually compared to their siblings. The last born were the least likely to earn six figures. Another reason for my sister to dislike me! Meanwhile, the survey also found that a person's astrological sign increases the odds they'll end up with a certain profession. For example, those with the sign Aquarius are most likely to work in sales, military, engineering, mechanic, food preparation, facilities management and transportation, while Geminis most often have careers in art/design/architecture, nursing and personal care, and sales.

Publishers Clearing House is alerting consumers about fraudulent mailings being sent to consumers that claim to be from PCH, Oprah Winfrey and O Magazine. The mailings include what appears to be a real check. However, the check is bogus. The fake checks often look so real that even bank tellers may be fooled. Consumers are told they are being given an advance on a sweepstakes they have won or are being paid the first installment on millions they would receive after wiring a portion back to the scammer. If consumers believe they are the victim of this scam they should contact their local law enforcement or consumer protection office. (Stations, contact Chris Irving, PCH Consumer Affairs, at 516-944-4918 to schedule an interview.)

Following the death of its mayor, the small northern Kentucky town of Rabbit Hash is preparing to elect a new leader. The only candidate so far is a border collie named Lucy Lou. The situation isn't unusual for the Boone County town. The former mayor was a black Labrador retriever named Junior Cochran, who died May 17th after serving since 2004. Rabbit Hash Historical Society has scheduled voting to begin August 31st and end November 4th, with voters paying a dollar per vote. Proceeds benefit the historical society. Candidates for the office may be humans or animals but not ducks or geese.

An Italian priest said he is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns to give them more visibility within the Catholic Church and to fight the stereotype that they are all old and ugly. The “Miss Sister 2008” contest will start in September on a blog run by the Rev. Antonio Rungi. He said visitors to the site will have a month to “vote for the nun they consider a model.”

NBC said the Beijing Olympics was the most-watched U.S. television event of all time. Through 16 days of coverage, 211 million viewers tuned in to the Olympics on NBC and its cable outlets. That’s 2 million more than the 1996 Atlanta Games, the previous all-time record-holder. NBC Universal devoted 3,600 hours of Olympic coverage. In Beijing, the final day of the Games drew nearly all of China’s 1.3 billion people to their televisions, making it “likely to be the most widely watched Games in Olympic history,” according to International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge. NBC paid $894 million for the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights, from which it says it has earned more than $1 billion in advertising revenue.

Truck discrimination!
A Texas homeowners association says a nearly new Ford truck isn’t good enough to be left out in a driveway overnight. Owner Jim Greenwood has gotten three notices telling him to get the truck out of the driveway or face a $50 per event fine. The homeowners association of Stonebriar Village in Frisco, Texas, does, however, allow more prestigious brand trucks – such as Lincolns – to be parked in driveways. Greenwood claims a board member told him that “Lincoln markets to a different class of people.” Greenwood said he paid nearly $30,000 for the Ford.
