It's Tuesday!-8/5/08

This has been another fast Tuesday. Thanks for hanging out with Matt and me with Carolina Country Cruizin! Join us tomorrow for another morning full of fun! Keep it rolling on Wheelz 100.5! Just in case you missed the show this morning here's what you missed:

A pretty bizarre incident is being investigated in Connecticut that includes a woman stuffing a very expensive bird under her shirt and walking out of a pet store. Branford Police say two women went into the All Pets Club last Wednesday with a dog and making a purchase. They left the place but came back a short time later and one of them stuffed the thousand-dollar bird under her clothing and walked out. It then got even more unusual as they returned a few days later to return it and offer to buy it. The shop owner declined to sell it to them. No charges have yet been filed in the case.

An Israeli couple taking a European vacation remembered all of their 18 suitcases, but forgot their 3- year-old daughter at the airport. The family of seven was late for a flight to Paris on Sunday and rushed to the gate. In the shuffle, they lost their daughter – who police found wandering around the airport crying. The parents didn’t notice their child was missing until they were told – in the air – that she had been found at Ben-Gurion Airport. An airline staffer accompanied the little girl to Paris, where she was reunited with her parents.

Utah farmer has constructed a fence in his backyard made of three old cars sticking up in the air to send a message to new neighbors that he can do whatever he wants on his own land. “This is just a fun way for me to say, ‘Hey boys, I’m still here,’” Rhett Davis said. “This is my redneck Stonehenge.” Rhett came up with the idea after his new neighbors started complaining about his farm.

Police in Salina, California, say a pickup truck thief lost the Chevy Silverado he stole to an armed carjacker during a 7-Eleven stop. A 33-year-old man told police he stole the pickup Saturday. Then, while sitting outside the convenience store, a man with a gun hopped in and ordered him to start driving. The pickup ran out of gas and the gunman ordered him to get out and push, but the man managed to run away and call police. On Sunday, the carjacking suspect nearly drove the truck into Salinas Fire Station as he was pursued by police. Both men were arrested.

Nathan Miller learned the hard way that “Road Closed” signs mean just what they say – THE ROAD IS CLOSED! Miller, of Milesburg, Pennsylvania, ventured onto a closed road Sunday in search of a good fishing spot at Bald Eagle State Park. Unfortunately, his pickup got stuck on some railroad tracks. After trying unsuccessfully for 45 minutes to get his truck free, Miller said all he could do was stand back and watch as a Norfolk Southern train smashed into it. “I was an idiot,” Miller said. Police cited him for trespassing.

Carol Greenberg, from Ohio, has sent Michigan transportation officials a bill for the $16 she says she wasted on gas sitting in construction zone traffic. Greenberg said there were no signs warning about the work on southbound I-275 where it merges with I-75 near Newport, Michigan. She ended up sitting in traffic for nearly an hour on July 23rd while trying to get home to the Toledo suburbs. The Michigan Department of Transportation sent a letter to Greenberg saying it was not able to reimburse drivers for time, wages, or gas lost in work zone back-ups. Meanwhile, in a similar incident, a woman from Indianapolis billed her physician for the extra 30 minutes she waited in his office past her appointment time. The woman said, “Doctors have this arrogance and think their time is more valuable than mine – so I billed him double the amount he charges my insurance.”

George Washington’s estate is back in the whiskey business. Mount Vernon will begin selling whiskey this week at Washington’s rebuilt distillery, which opened to the public last year. The Distilled Spirits Council says Mount Vernon is allowed to sell the whiskey under a special measure signed this year by Virginia’s governor. The estate will sell $25 commemorative gift sets of whiskey, made from combining and re-aging some of America’s most famous brands. Washington got into the whiskey business after he returned to his riverfront estate following his two terms as president. By 1799, he was producing 11,000 gallons a year.

Who would have ever thought we’d see the day when Americans were happy that gas had dropped to $3.88 a gallon? The government said yesterday that the price for a gallon of gas is at its lowest level in 11 weeks and down 7.5 cents in the last week alone. That is the cheapest pump price since May 19, but still up $1.04 from a year ago. Prices hit a record $4.11 on July 7th but have been dropping since due to lower gas demand and cheaper crude oil costs. Every $1 decline in the price of oil equals about a 2.4-cent drop in the price for a gallon of gas. The Gulf Coast has the cheapest gas at $3.77 a gallon, down 9.1 cents. The most expensive gas is on the West Coast at $4.14 a gallon, down 10.5 cents. By city, Cleveland has the lowest pump price at $3.72. San Francisco has the most expensive gas by city at $4.26 a gallon.

Morgan Freeman broke his left elbow and sustained neck and shoulder injuries in a one-car accident in rural Mississippi late Sunday night. The 71-year-old Oscar-winner was driving a Nissan Maxima belonging to his passenger, a woman named Demaris Meyer, when he skidded off the edge of the road, causing the car to flip over several times. They both had to be removed from the car with the jaws of life and were both airlifted to a Memphis hospital. A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman said there was "no indication" drugs or alcohol were involved. Freeman is listed in serious condition. According to his business partner, he will have surgery on his elbow and should take about three or four months to recover.

JetBlue started charging passengers for pillows yesterday, marking the latest attempt by struggling airlines to recoup some of the cost of soaring fuel prices. JetBlue said it will no longer provide pillows, but passengers on flights longer than two hours can buy a pillow and blanket kit for $7. The kit, made by CleanBrands, is dubbed as “the world’s cleanest” due to its toxin-blocking fabric. Passengers who buy the kit also get a coupon for $5 off purchases at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Charlie Sheen is so upset with a Beverly Hills pediatrician that he has paid an outstanding medical bill in loose change. Sheen reportedly asked children’s doctor Peter Waldstein to stop treating his daughters, according to his ex-wife Denise Richards’ wishes, and when he refused, Sheen collected $380 in nickels to pay the bill. Charlie was upset that the doctor immunized his kids without his permission.

Pickler said she named him “MooMoo” because he’s “black and white like a little cow.” Pickler also has a cat named Pickles. Meanwhile, Pickler says she’s having a great summer, playing shows every night. Her new, self-titled CD comes out September 30th.

Though making records is at the top of Billy Currington's priority list, he would like to try his hand at acting someday. He tells the Baton Rouge, Louisiana The Advocat, "I want to keep making records as long as I have that opportunity. But also I've always had an interest in acting. I look forward to doing a movie someday. I feel like that's waiting in the wings for me. I don't know where or when, but I don't think it's too far away." Billy's third not yet titled album is due out on October 19th

Forbes magazine has released its first list of top-earning tweens, and to no one's surprise, Miley Cyrus checks in at number-one. The Hannah Montana star pulled in a hefty 25-million dollars in the past year -- thanks in part to her 70-date Best of Both Worlds concert tour, which grossed 54-million bucks.

Heidi Newfield has been waiting on this day for some time now. The singer's debut solo project, "What Am I Waiting For," arrives in stores today. Newfield says she's very pleased with the effort, and hopes she'll be able to reach fans with the disc.
James Otto and Michelle Branch have songs on the soundtrack for "Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2," which is in stores today. For the project Otto performs the title track to his current CD, "Sunset Man," while Branch contributes "Together."

Evans says his role models include Keith Urban, Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw. He competed on “The Biggest Loser” with his mother and lost 136 pounds.

Carrie Underwood has great taste. That's what the voters for the annual Teen Choice Awards thought when they voted Underwood Red Carpet Fashion Icon Female. Male counterparts for the honor were the Jonas Brothers. Miley Cyrus, who hosted the event, was also a winner. She was named the Teen Choice Music Female Artist and Choice TV Actress in a Comedy for "Hannah Montana." The Disney Channel series also won Best TV Show Comedy.

Trace Adkins has issued a warning to new fans who may not have heard all of his music -- they should do some research before attending his show. He tells Canada's Edmonton Journal, "I'm sometimes on stage looking out at the audience, and you can see someone horrified by a suggestive or flat-out nasty song I've done. This always kinda makes me laugh to myself. I always want to say, 'You should really do a bit more research when you go to a show to understand the performer's full body of work.'" Trace's new single, "Muddy Water," is a G-rated tune about redemption and baptism

Starting tomorrow, Faith Hill's fans can log onto her website, FaithHill-dot-com, to get a sneak peek at the Sunday Night Football T-V spot she filmed 48 hours before it makes its television debut.
