Thursday-8/14/2008

Did this week go by as fast as it did for us? Tomorrow is another Friday and that starts the weekend here at Wheelz! Join us again for another morning of Carolina Country Cruizin' with Matt and Dee. More winning and fun so keep it rolling on Wheelz 100.5! Just in case you missed part of the show this morning, here's what we chewed the fat about.

Two Georgia men claim to have found Bigfoot. They say they have a body, photos of the body, and DNA – some of which will be revealed tomorrow at a press conference in Palo Alto, California. If the men produce a carcass, then scientists may take note. But it’s not exactly clear how they will prove that they have Bigfoot since there is no comparison specimen and no DNA analysis that can definitively identify Bigfoot tissue. (Press conference will be at noon tomorrow)

Jo Dee Messina is helping to make a dream come true for a critically ill eight-year-old boy. She'll perform at a benefit concert on Sunday in Swansea, Massachusetts with all proceeds from the concert going to the Make-a-Wish Foundation to help young Stephen realize his dream of going to Disney World.

Although former “American Idol” sensation Carrie Underwood has become a HUGE star, fame has its downside – especially when it comes to dating. “You never really know why somebody wants to be around you, or if they do genuinely like you,” Underwood tells Allure magazine. “I wish everyone had a label on their forehead so you could automatically tell their intentions. Sometimes you just wish that no one wanted anything from you.”

Taylor Swift says she is unlucky in love because potential boyfriends are too scared of being featured in her songs. The 18-year-old says, “I think guys are afraid to ask me out because they think I’ll write a song about them. And I would. I have no shame in that.”

Nashville Star winner Melissa Lawson will make her Grand Ole Opry debut on Saturday night. Melissa, who just got back from performing on N-B-C's Today show at the Olympics in Beijing, is thrilled at the opportunity to play on Nashville's most prestigious stage. She says, "Since I was 17 years old, I have been performing on the Opry circuit in Texas. To be acknowledged by the Grand Ole Opry and asked to perform is such an honor." Melissa's single "What If It All Goes Right" just cracked the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart at number-49.

Trisha Yearwood hopes to add another award to her mantel -- the Golden Wiener Award. Trisha is up for the award along with four other cooking celebs who've appeared on the syndicated Live With Regis and Kelly. Her competitors are game show host Pat Sajak, NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson, Survivor host Jeff Probst and, in a show of nepotism, Kelly's son Michael Consuelos. After an online vote, the wiener...er...winner will be announced tomorrow.

An American television staple is coming back to television on RFD-TV. “Hee Haw” will return to a weekly line up thanks to popular demand. Episodes will run during the Sunday night lineup at 8 p.m. [ET] and repeat on Monday mornings.

Though some country stars such as John Rich are vocal about their choice for president, Toby Keith thinks Americans should make up their own minds. He tells Pennsylvania's Erie Times-News, "I don't think anyone should listen to what stupid celebrities say. If someone endorsing someone is going to change the way you vote, then you're not taking advantage of your American right here. Everybody needs to educate themselves and vote the best they can." And Toby thinks that some politicians get too caught up in what's left or right wing. "If the polar cap is melting and we're doing it, I need to go educate myself and find out what I can do to help save the planet. That doesn't make me a lefty. Because I wave the flag and support the troops wherever they are in the world, that doesn't make me a righty."

John Rich is committed to helping get John McCain into the White House. But he insists that he would never bash a politician like the Dixie Chicks did a few years back. He tells celebrity columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Janel Smith, "Never in a million years would I bash Barack Obama. You don't bash people who have risen to that level of prominence in the United States. It's disrespectful... I wish they hadn't done it because I love the Dixie Chicks' music and they're such a powerful act and turned so many people on to country music. But they made their decisions and the chips fall where they fall." John kicks off a second season of hosting C-M-T's Gone Country on Friday.

After a three-year wait, LeAnn Rimes and her husband Dean are finally in their brand-new house. And though they're not even done unpacking, they've already had to jump on the bus for a show in Dallas. LeAnn writes on her MySpace blog, "We have tons of boxes everywhere. We have a lot of work to do when we return home next week." LeAnn says that she's feeling a lot better after a nasty bout with tonsillitis that took her out for several days. Tonight, she's in New Orleans for Kenny Chesney's Poets and Pirates Tour.

Brad Paisley says he knows the importance of having a great opening act. That's one of the reasons he is involved in choosing the people who join him on tour. The singer tells the "Kansas City Star" the warm-up performer is, quote, "a big deal, because your crowd is going to be sitting through that. You want it to be fun for them." He adds that he also tries to give the new artists opportunities he was offered when he was starting out. Regarding his current opening acts, Paisley says that Julianna Hough is fun and Jewel bridges the gap between styles by performing her new country material as well as her older pop standards. Chuck Wicks is also part of the lineup, taking his second turn out with Paisley. Brad's former opening acts include Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Kellie Pickler. But he denies any special skill in recognizing future stars, noting, quote, "Anybody could've looked at them and known they were going to be great. I took them out 'cause I liked them."

The fat lady has sung for that Jennifer Aniston-John Mayer romance. The 30-year-old rocker has apparently followed in Brad Pitt's footsteps and dumped the 39-year-old Friends star. A so-called source close to Mayer tells the London Mirror that John "just wasn't ready for the level of commitment that Jennifer deserved... Initially, Jennifer was furious...but now she's simply sad -- not to mention a little heartbroken." To add insult to injury, Jennifer just finished filming the big-screen version of He's Just Not That Into You.

Alan Jackson was surrounded by family, friends and colleagues from the music industry last night in Nashville as he celebrated reaching 50-million albums sold. Party-goers, including Trace Adkins and Mel Tillis, were treated to bologna sandwiches, grits, and biscuits and ham against a lavish backdrop of ice sculptures embedded with Alan's album covers. After a video retrospective of his career, an appreciative Alan thanked the crowd and marveled at how many people his music has touched. He said, "I've been to places where you think it's remote as could be, and you land and you get out of the airplane and some little native fella there will be holding one of my C-Ds wanting me to sign it."

A former part-time Pennsylvania police officer has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for pulling over a woman while he was off duty -- just to give her his phone number. Steven Klinger, 32, was charged with official oppression, or acting outside his authority as an officer. Police said he used red and blue lights mounted on the dashboard of his pickup truck to pull over a woman in eastern Pennsylvania in April 2007. The woman became suspicious when he began asking her if she was married or had a boyfriend, police said. Klinger, who last worked for the Dallas Police Department in northeastern Pennsylvania, is currently unemployed.

Minnesota authorities are calling a man's death "ironic." According to the "Star-Tribune," 57-year-old Noel Hanson passed away just five hours after his wife Sandra was released from jail. Sandra was incarcerated after attempting to kill Noel last December. She told police that she had nothing to do with his death on Monday. She remains free while police investigate the matter. Friends say Noel was instrumental in getting Sandra back home, because he told the judge that he felt "safe" with her.

The owner of a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that’s traveled more than a million miles is selling what he affectionately calls his “old girl.” Frank Oresnik’s pickup, with 1.03 million miles, goes on sale on eBay tonight. The minimum bid is $30,000 and the auction continues for 10 days. The 58-year-old Catawba, Wisconsin, man says he wants his pickup to go to someone who can display it because it is so unique. He hopes it sells for more than $100,000. Oresnik says the truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks and five transmissions, but the engine is still original.

It’s long been understood that color can affect your mood, but what about your career choices? The Color Career Counselor, a new online personality test offered by CareerBuilder, is a color-based personality test that looks at the relationship between colors and careers. The free test can be found at www.careerpath.com. Job seekers are asked to select the colors they like and dislike from a system of 3,375 combinations. Here are some preferred color combination examples:
· Yellow, Green and White: You’re the Designer – You make products, systems, services, or environments fit others’ needs. · Blue, Green and Brown: You’re the Dream maker – You are at your best when you are supporting people through periods of crisis or fixing things. Consider being a doctor, nurse, physical therapist, corporate trainer, chiropractor, forest ranger, or carpenter.
· Red, Orange and Black: You’re the Evaluator – You increase profitability by constantly examining, in detail, the most efficient way to accomplish tasks. Consider support situations such as banking, operational support, computer repair, child care, or selling supportive products.

An 8-year-old boy with a talent for imitating a cow has won the top mooing prize at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis. Philip Prantle took home the top prize Saturday at the fair’s fifth annual Cousins Subs Moo-la-palooza World Famous Mooing Contest Prantle was selected to compete in the contest after mooing against about 500 others in an online competition. During the contest, the race between Prantle and runner-up Tony Capla, also 8, was so close the organizers had to hold a “moo-off.” The crowd picked the winner. Prantle was awarded $1,000, a year’s supply of Cousins’ subs and a suit jacket with a cow print dubbed the “moo jacket.”

Officials with Fort Hays State University in Kansas said a professor is being investigated after a video of him mooning students was posted on YouTube. School officials said Professor Bill Shanahan got angry at a Fort Hays State debate team event when the team got low scores from two judges. The YouTube video shows Shanahan jumping up and down and ranting before dropping his pants and mooning the crowd of students and teachers attending the event.
